reduce, reuse, recycle

I've been away in Melbourne for three days and I'm tired, it's almost midnight and I need to get to bed so I can get up at 6:30 tomorrow and re-imerse myself in the family routine. But I would like to do a good blog entry, and since a large percentage of the population can't tell the difference between me and Denny anyway, I'm going to reprint a post she put on her blog yesterday .  it's funny cos it's quite true - (except the part where she claims to be better looking, and I notice she doesn't mention how much taller and smarter I am) - but anyway here you are:

I’m getting tired of people mixing me up for Cathy. It’s funny though, because although people are always thinking that I’m her, the reverse does not seem to occur (I look like her but she doesn’t look like me?) While I get questioned about my cake business and my animation work and told at school that Yes, Zoe can attend Zali’s party (that’s nice, but Zali’s not my daughter), I’m pretty sure that people don’t try to talk with her about her braindead administration work for Australia Post (though come to think of it no one does with me either). And the basketball umpire seems to be able to tell the difference between us on the court as Cathy is not getting pinged for my fouls and I’m not getting credit for her goals. Maybe it’s the big number on my back? Perhaps if we wear numbers all the time people will be able to tell us apart. Or possibly I should wear a sticker that says “Not Cathy” on my top.

Mostly, I just try to stumble through the conversations to avoid making the other person feel embarrassed. Yes, the cake business is doing well, summer is always busy with weddings. No, that’s alright, I’ll get some information to you about the Pixel Pinkie forms later. It probably makes me look like Supermum because whilst holding down 2 interesting jobs (one full-time, one part-time) I’m at school drop offs and pick ups and also serving on the uniform stall and the school fundraising committee. I play up to four different sports and even sometimes appear at Big W in the middle of the day.

For my part, I do not think I look like Cathy. I would say that we might sound the same and have the same mannerisms and of course a bit of shared history, but that’s where the similarities end. Obviously, I am WAY BETTER LOOKING – though no one seems to notice this either. I am trying to work out how this mixing up can work for me and the best strategy I can think of is sending her along to job interviews on my behalf. She never fluffs them like me. I’m great at the written submissions, but it usually ends badly a few weeks later.
